The last 2 weeks have been hard!  Since March, we have been working diligently to change and adapt ministry to the current COVID-19 times that we are in.   After that, we immediately dove into addressing the racial injustice that has been going on in our country.

However, on the morning of July 20th, there was a spree of random gun violence that swept across King and Snohomish counties.  In the end, 5 of our youth were shot and one lost his life.  All were 18 or under!  This was nothing short of evil so we hit our knees in prayer!  Since then, my staff has been meeting and processing with students, helping arrange memorials, connecting with the students who were shot and their families, and loving our kids well!

Last week, I spent 2.5 hours with one of my students, Johnny, who was shot.  It was a really cool time.  I ate lunch with him while he laid in bed (his leg was broken because of the bullet) and talked to him about what happened, life, faith, and God!  Johnny had a Bible with him in bed that we had given him from camp one year and he was telling me about what he had been reading!  As time has gone on, the pain of loss is still there, but it has been overshadowed by the love, grace, and peace of God!

We at Youth for Christ are called by God to love and lead in the urban neighborhoods where we work - no matter what the circumstances.  We do so boldly knowing that "the one who called us is faithful (1 Thessalonians 5:24)!"

Thank you for your continued partnership in this work!  Your support and prayers keeps us going!

PRAY

  • Pray for the students who were shot and lived to heal from their wounds, surgeries, PTSD, and grow in their faith and trust in God!  He spared their lives and he has a reason for it!
  • Pray for the family and friends of our young man who died.  He was supposed to be heading to college in the fall to study engineering.  He was loved by all!
  • Pray for our team of staff and volunteers as we continue to adapt and do ministry daily in this strange and ever changing time.
  • Pray that God would continue to provide for us financially, so that we are able to continue to do this work in our communities to our students on the margins!
  • Pray that we have wisdom on how to plan and prepare for the fall as all of our students will be doing virtual school!
